Day Camp Schedule
While timing will vary from camp to camp, here's a typical schedule for a full day multicultural summer camp.
8:45am-9am
Starting the day
theme of the day and overview of today's activities
camp books intro and explanation
safety and social expectations
9am-9:45am
Culture share 1: Introduction to the theme country; the day's cultural ambassador introduces their country and culture through an opening activity - this may be a craft, learning some language, geography, or through songs and music.
Break
10am -10:20am
Colour your own apron - each child will receive an apron they can customize as they like. A great opportunity to think about what they've learned so far.
10:20am - 10:45am
Culture share 2: Find out about the food of today's country - the fruit, the most popular food and try some snacks!
Break
11am - 12pm
Cooking segment: participants work in pairs to cook a simple meal from today's country. Following instructions and learning from today's cultural ambassador, participant pairs will be supported by their own camp assistant.
12:00 - 12:30pm
Lunch: now's the fun time - eating the meal they've cooked together - and a great time for participants and facilitators to swap stories of food from our different families and cultures.
12:30pm - 1pm
Clean up and break time
1pm - 1:45pm
Culture share 3: After lunch, it's time for a more active experience from today's country through organized play, stories, games, and perhaps some sport or dancing.
Break
2pm-3pm
Rounding out the day: final thoughts and exploration of today's country. Participants will work together to record their memories, thoughts, learning, and experiences from the day in their camp book.
